Want to get disciplined in your life with one simple rule? If you’re tired of jumping between tasks, multitasking, and never feeling accomplished, this method will change the game. I’ve tried dozens of productivity systems—but this one actually stuck.

The Golden Rule: One Task at a Time

That’s it — the entire rule. I’ve stopped multitasking. No more juggling five things at once. Instead, I simply pick one task and complete it, no matter how long it takes—even if it goes beyond the time I initially blocked for it.

And the result? I’ve become more focused, more relaxed, and surprisingly, more productive. That’s the power of getting disciplined in your life with one simple rule.

How to Select your Task

You can select any task from your personal or professional life based on the priority and then start doing it. Some of the example tasks are

  • Make Birth Certificates for my Child
  • Google Adsense Approval
  • Fill the Income Task Return
  • Build the Export API in my micro service

Application Used for Tracking the task

I use Google Calendar to track my task. Whenever I get a future idea or current Idea then I create a task in my Google Calendar. If the task is going to take more than 1 day then I will use the repeat option in the Google Calendar

Google Calendar also provides a frequency for your task which you can use to track your task. For example Google Adsense sends you money on every 26th of the month. so you can se a Task for 27th of every month to check whether the credit was received and what deductions were made.

  • Whenever I get an idea or task, I don’t write it on a sticky note or leave it floating in my mind. I open my Google Calendar and schedule it immediately—even if I’m not going to work on it today.
  • I block time for the task, just like I would for a meeting.
  • If I don’t complete the task in the time allotted, I still continue working on it until it’s done. The priority is completing the task, not sticking rigidly to the time slot.

This is how I stay disciplined in my life with one simple rule—by scheduling everything.

Nightly Review Routine

Every night, I have a recurring calendar event titled “Daily Review and Plan”.

During this time, I:

  • Review what I completed during the day.
  • Ask myself: Did I finish what I started? Did I stick to the “one-task” rule?
  • Plan my next day by moving unfinished tasks or scheduling new ones I thought about during the day.

This small habit of reflection and planning helps me start the next day with clarity and intention.

Why This Works

Here’s why this method has been a game changer for me:

No overwhelm: I don’t feel anxious about a long list of things. I only care about the one task in front of me.

Deep focus: I enter a flow state faster because my attention isn’t fragmented.

Better results: I finish more tasks completely and with higher quality.

Sense of Achievement: When you complete small task then you get a release of dopamine hormone in your body which makes you happy

Final Thoughts

You don’t need a complex system or expensive tools to bring discipline into your life. All you need is the commitment to focus on one task at a time, and the discipline to follow through.

Try it for one week. Use your calendar. Stick to one task. And review your progress at night.

I promise—it works.
